胎兒是人嗎？墮胎可行嗎？死刑不合理嗎？本書批判認同墮胎卻反對死刑的現代主流文化，主張胎兒是人以及死刑犯要為其重大惡行付上生命代價。

　　柯志明認為，現代主流文化認同墮胎而卻反死刑是一種「成人主義偏見」，即只視成人為人並高舉包括死刑犯在內的成人擁有絕對不可侵犯的生命權，但卻全完漠視無辜胎兒的生命權。柯志明根據聖經主張，人具有上帝形像，享有不可被任意剝奪的生命權，而胎兒是人，因而墮胎是殺人；但惡性重大的罪犯當被處死，因為他們毀壞了上帝以其誡命保護不可觸犯的神聖價值，尤其是人的生命。

　　對立於現代人本主義文化潮流，柯志明在本書中清楚申論，道德、權利與生命的意義都必須根植於上帝，否則不可能，也無意義。
