20世纪的西班牙诗坛是“又一个黄金世纪”。马查多和希梅内斯虽然都受以鲁文·达里奥为代表的现代主义影响，却各领风骚，成为“九八年一代”和“一四年一代”的代表人物。“二七年一代”更是群星荟萃，相映生辉：加西亚·洛尔卡、阿尔贝蒂、阿莱克桑德雷、豪尔赫·纪廉、萨利纳斯、达马索·阿隆索等，共同书写了西班牙当代诗坛一部多姿多彩的神话。他们摒弃法国超现实主义的自动写作，但又注意挖掘传统诗歌中的超现实主义因素，从而使西班牙抒情诗从“纯粹”转向“多元”。1936—1939年的西班牙内战割裂了西班牙诗坛，“社会诗歌”蓬勃发展
