本书是以哲学释经的一次尝试，旨在接续先贤哲思，思入庄子。庄子对哲学，对自己哲学之思的意义，有充分的自觉，正是这种自觉，使其可以粪土圣王、笑傲天下、逍遥人间。这种自觉意味着汉语文明史上的奠基性时刻，将人性和天下的道德与政治秩序奠基于、复归于自然之万世根基。遗憾的是，庄子的奠基性历史意义并没有被后世所充分自觉和接续，庄子之大体，长期被天下遮蔽、遗忘。
