《杜英諾哀歌》（Duino Elegies）共10首，第1首起於1912年里爾克在杜英諾城堡獨居時。里爾克曾因第一次世界大戰（1914-1918）及憂鬱症無法寫作，拒絕讀報，自我孤絕，停筆10年，在慕尼黑等待戰爭結束。直到1922年初在瑞士的穆佐城堡（Chȃteau de Muzot）神思勃發，短短數天，《杜英諾哀歌》全部完成。

《杜英諾哀歌》及《給奧菲厄斯十四行》這兩部作品也是里爾克一生中最重要及富影響力的創作。在《杜英諾哀歌》裡所處理的題材是：人的困局及其提升超越之道，由閉塞的世界導向開放世界之過程。
